Tesla announced a recall of more than 125,000 cars that were found to be operating with faulty seat belt systems and potentially putting drivers at greater risk of injury when on the road.

According to federal guidelines from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), vehicles are required to have audible and visual seat belt reminder signs to notify drivers that the seat belt is not properly fastened. Tesla vehicles facing recall had signals going off at inappropriate times, NHTSA he said in a report released Thursday.

This recall adds to the company’s 2.5 million recalls issued this year so far.

In January, Tesla recalled some 2023 Y, S and X model vehicles due to a software issue that prevented the camera image from showing images while the Teslas were in reverse. The following month, Tesla recalled almost 2.2 million vehicles because of the “incorrect font size” on your instrument panel for the brake, parking, and anti-lock braking system warning lights. Then, in April, Tesla recalled all MY Cybertrucks 2024 made between November 13, 2023 and April 4, 2024 due to faulty accelerator pedals.

Tesla also had the highest accident rate of any car in 2023, according to a Loan Tree Analysis last year, with 23.54 accidents per 1,000 drivers.

Here’s what we know about Tesla’s latest recall.

What exactly is faulty with the models?

In certain vehicles with specific seat belt software, there is no mandatory audible and visual seat belt reminder for drivers, even when the driver’s seat belt is not fastened, due to incorrect tracking in driver seat occupancy.

When did Tesla first find out about the discrepancy?

On April 18, Tesla identified this discrepancy with seat belt reminders as part of an internal compliance audit of the 2024 Tesla Model X, and then investigated the condition throughout the rest of April and May.

After Tesla completed its investigation in late May, the company voluntarily recalled affected vehicles.

Which models are impacted by the recall?

Tesla models affected by the recall include 2012-2024 Model S, 2015-2024 Model

Have there been any collisions, injuries or deaths as a result of the problem?

In the NHTSA report, Tesla stated that as of May 28, the company had identified 104 warranty claims that may be related to the condition, but the company states that it is not aware of Tesla having any collisions, deaths or injuries that may be related to the condition. illness

How will Tesla solve the problem for customers?

Tesla plans to ship a free over-the-air (OTA) software solution to customers with affected vehicles in June this year. This software will fix the software problem depending on the driver’s seat belt buckle and ignition status to trigger seat belt reminders.
