Google launches children’s smartwatch that mixes exercise with games

O Google launched the Fitbit Ace LTE, a personalized smartwatch for kids. The objective of the new feature is to encourage children to move around and practice physical activities through immersive games and rewards.

Developed for children aged seven and over, the watch activates games with different types of physical activities, including games like hide and seek, jumping on the bed or dancing. The more time a user spends moving and completing daily activities, their Eejies — the device’s customizable emojis — become healthier and happier.

To measure exercise time, a circle on the main display — called Noodle — moves, completes cycles and marks scores for games. When kids reach their daily movement goals, the clock celebrates the achievement.

In addition to encouraging children to move, the Fitbit Ace LTE is intended to increase the level of safety for little ones who use the smartwatch. Through the Fitbit Ace app, guardians can access the watch’s location, make calls and send messages directly to the device. Furthermore, according to Google, it is possible to select the contacts that are authorized to interact with the watch.

Furthermore, tools are available in the smartwatch settings to prevent children from being distracted by games — such as blocking the device during periods when they are in class.

The Fitbit Ace LTE is on sale in the United States starting at US$230 (around R$1,200) and at the time of publishing this article, no dates for sales in Brazil have been announced.
