NASA (United States space agency) canceled a spacewalk that would take place at 9 am (Brasília time) this Thursday (13). The departure from the International Space Station would be carried out by two astronauts.
Preparations for the walk were broadcast live on NASA’s YouTube channel (below). At around 8:30 am, however, the astronauts began to remove their equipment. NASA has not yet announced what caused the cancellation of the spacewalk as of Thursday morning.
For about 6 hours and 30 minutes, astronauts Tracy Dyson and Matt Dominick would remove a defective electronics box, according to a statement from the space agency. “The pair will also collect samples for analysis, aiming to understand the ability of microorganisms to survive and reproduce outside the orbital laboratory”, says the note published before the cancellation of the action.
Dyson, who would be on his fourth such walk, would wear a red-striped suit; Dominick, would take his first walk outside the station, would wear an unmarked outfit. This would be the 90th spacewalk performed by US astronauts.
The next walks outside the space station are scheduled for June 24th and July 2nd.
The ISS is considered a laboratory in Earth’s orbit, which has been traveling around the planet for about 25 years. The station is maintained by a collaboration between different countries; The most active nations in operations are the United States, Russia, Canada, Japan and European countries.
