A NASA highlighted this Monday (17) a record of the nebula known as Giant squid. Discovered in 2011 by the French Nicolas Outtersthe cosmic cloud was photographed by Alex Linde.
Its bluish color is due to the emission of doubly ionized oxygen atoms. Despite the curious format, the size of the nebula in no way resembles the mollusk marine, as it covers almost three full moons in the sky of planet Earth.
With a not very precise location, an investigation suggested that the Giant Squid nebula — also known as Ou4 — may be within the Sh2-129 region, about 2,300 light years away.
Thanks to the scenario in which it is located, the cosmic cloud is consistent, being driven by a triple system of hot and massive stars, cataloged as HR8119.
