O WhatsApp application will no longer work on cell phones with the KaiOS operating system. For users who never connected their devices to the software or discontinued it before June 25th, it will no longer be possible to do so and, for those who are activated, they will be able to use the program until the beginning of 2025.

The information was transmitted through the help page on the KaiOS website, which does not justify the closure of the service on the platform.

The operating system created based on the old Firefox OS is used on basic cell phones and adapted for devices that do not have a touch screen. Companies such as Nokia, Positivo and Multilaser use the platform on their devices.

The Help Center page on WhatsApp continues to indicate that devices with KaiOS 2.5.0 and later, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2, are considered compatible with the system, which may change after the beginning of 2025, as indicated by the operating system.

According to information on the website, “every year, we analyze which devices and software are the oldest and have the smallest number of users. It is possible that these devices do not include the latest security updates or do not include functionality necessary to operate WhatsApp”, which may indicate a reason for the termination of the partnership with KaiOS.

No information was found about changes in the functioning of the WhatsApp application for the Android and iOS operating systems.
