Developed by Apple, Amazon, Google and Samsung (and others), matter is a open codeIP-based connectivity software layer for smart home devices. It works over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and the Thread low-power mesh networking protocol and currently supports more than 30 device types. This includes lighting, thermostats, locks, robotic vacuums, refrigerators, dishwashers, dryers, ovens, smoke alarms, air quality monitors, electric vehicle chargers and more.
A smart home device with the Matter logo can be configured and used with any Matter-compatible ecosystem through one Matter controller and controlled by more than one with a feature called Multi-admin.
Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and Apple Home are some of the top smart home platforms that support Matter, along with hundreds of device manufacturers.
