Apple is introducing a new dynamic screen saver and wallpaper combination in macOS Sequoia that respectfully compliments the Macintosh’s retro iconography. Simply nicknamed “Macintosh”, MacRumors reports that the live wallpaper changes through graphics designed by Susan Karethe artist and former Apple employee responsible for many of the fonts and interface elements for the first Macintosh personal computer.
Users cannot control which icons appear on the Macintosh random wallpaper. Some recognizable highlights include the iconic “Happy Mac” launch icon, the Dogcow (aka Clarus) used in the Print Setup dialog box, the floral-inspired command icon, and the bomb that appeared when classic macOS crashed. The wallpaper is available in eight colors along with Spectrum, Random and Accent.
macOS Sequoia is required to get the full animated effect, but is currently only available to developers ahead of the full version’s release later this fall. For now, Apple design enthusiast Basic Apple Guy shared a bunch of high-res screenshots of the Macintosh wallpaper that show off some of its best parts and work perfectly as static wallpapers on other devices.
