There’s a bit of a payoff theme to this week’s trailers. Anthony Mackie finally takes the lead on the big screen after 10 years in the MCU; Ridley Scott plan over two decades for Gladiator the sequel is coming to fruition; and we will finally find out what happens to the big data refinement team in Separation.

There’s a lot to watch this week, from big-budget movies to extravagant TV shows, so let’s get down to business, starting, naturally, with the MCU.

Captain America: Brave New World

In the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) wants to make Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) part of the US military once again. He’s clearly turned off by the idea, but is forced into the fray after super soldier Isaiah Bradley attacks the president.

Mackie’s first MCU film as a main character (and, it turns out, Red Hulk’s first appearance!) hits theaters on January 14, 2025, so you have time to catch up The Falcon and the Winter Soldier before its debut.

F1

Expensive new from Apple and Warner Bros F1 It won’t be released in US theaters until June 27, 2025, but it already has a teaser trailer with lots of racing scenes. Brad Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a veteran driver who has been out of the game since a serious accident in the 1990s, but is convinced to return to the circuit as a mentor to Joshua Pearse (Damson Idris).

The film looks as bombastic as director Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick. Not just Pitt and Idris actually drive cars for the film, but much of the filming took place at real Formula 1 races.

Gladiator II

Ridley Scott’s long-awaited film Gladiator the sequel finds Lucius Verus (Paul Mescal), nephew of Emperor Commodus from the first film, adult and with no memory of his mother, Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) – although he remembers the rebellion of Russell Crowe’s Maximus. Now enslaved and inspired by Maximus, Lucius joins Macrinus (Denzel Washington) to carry out his own revolt, whose objective is nothing less than the fall of Rome.

Gladiator II also stars Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger and opens on November 22.

Time Bandits

Taika Waititi’s opinion Time Bandits it looks like it will have the fantastical pseudo-realism of the Terry Gilliam film it’s based on, but with a few changes to the formula – the biggest of which is that the Time Bandits themselves are no longer played by little people.

Otherwise, the premise is basically the same: a boy finds himself traveling through time on an adventure with a band of time-hopping thieves. Lisa Kudrow, Rune Temte, Kal-El Tuck, Tadhg Murphey, Kiera Thompson and more star in the Apple TV Plus series, which premieres July 24.

Agatha all the time

In WandaVision spin off Agatha all the time, Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) helps Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) emerge from an illusion that made her believe she was a detective trying to solve a mysterious murder. However, she discovers that the witch powers she had in WandaVision are gone, and she needs to gather a clan to get them back. Agatha all the time begins streaming September 18 on Disney Plus.

Separation

Separation season two is finally here. It’s been more than two years since the first season finale of the bizarre sci-fi thriller. Now, the new season is set to premiere on January 17th on Apple TV Plus. If you haven’t seen the show yet, don’t worry: the teaser Apple released earlier this week features characters Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry) and Irving (John Turturro), but it doesn’t spoil anything.
