Snap is being launched a host of new features on Snapchat, including the ability to edit already sent messages, allowing you to correct a “your” versus “you” typo or other embarrassing mistakes. Snapchat is also getting emoji reactions, map reactions, and a new AI-powered reminders feature.
The message editing feature has a short window: you need to act within five minutes of sending it – and only if the recipient hasn’t already opened it. Snap says the feature will come “first” to Snapchat Plus subscribers — a decision that echoes the same paywall for Elon Musk’s Twitter Blue (now called X Premium) established more than a year ago.
Snapchat is also getting new AI features to go along with Snap’s OpenAI-based My AI chatbot, added last year. You can ask My AI to remind you of important deadlines and it will set up a countdown so you don’t forget. Additionally, Snap will now let you generate custom outfits for your Bitmoji using AI, and AI Lenses will let you create a 90s Polaroid-style version of yourself just by providing a selfie.
If Bitmojis aren’t your thing, Snapchat will now let you send regular emoji reactions to messages too. And if that’s not enough for you in one day, you can now send a reaction to friends who share your location on Snap when you pass them on your commute or when they get to work — just don’t do it while you’re driving. These new Snapchat features are available now, while editable messages for Plus subscribers are “coming soon.”
