Tinder is rolling out an AI-powered feature that reportedly makes it easier for users to select better photos for their dating profiles. The dating app says it’s new Photo Picker Tool aims to “take the guesswork out” of choosing your most attractive photos by curating a diverse selection that is “optimized to help users find a match.”

To use Photo Selector, users will need to take a selfie within Tinder and allow the app to access their device’s camera roll. Tinder’s new AI feature will use facial recognition to collate a selection of images for users to review and add to their profiles. Curation is processed on the device and does not load the user’s camera roll into Tinder’s systems. We asked Tinder to clarify the criteria the feature uses to select images and will update if we hear back.

According to Tinder, the purpose of Photo Selector is to help its users focus on “making meaningful connections”, saving time when putting together dating profiles. In a study of 7,000 18- to 25-year-olds conducted by the app, Tinder says it found that young singles spent an average of 33 minutes selecting the right profile photo to use. The new Photo Selector feature could help reduce this, but it’s unlikely to solve the larger problems it’s causing dating app fatigue.

Photo Selector is available for iOS and Android devices, with launch scheduled to begin in the US in July. Support for international markets will arrive “this summer”, according to Tinder.
