One incident, as noted by Henderson, occurred in 2022 when KSI attempted to give away more than $10,000 in Amazon gift cards. However, KSI realized later that all gift card codes were redeemed before the video was posted, prompting an internal YouTube investigation. The company reportedly launched a similar investigation following the trailer for GTA VI leaked, but it’s unclear if it’s related.

This all ties into what appears to be an ongoing issue at Google. On Monday, 404 Media published reports based on Google’s internal database records and discovered that a Google’s contractor was behind the 2017 Nintendo leak that offered an early look The world created by Yoshi.

At the time, a user of Reddit shared an image from the trailer shortly before its reveal at E3. The image contained a URL “admin.youtube.com” in the address bar, suggesting that an employee accessed the private version of the video.

Google confirmed that an employee accessed information in a database entry viewed by 404 Media. “Google Employee Deliberately Leaked Nintendo’s Private Information,” the entry read. “Former TVC [temporary vendor contractor] Download the video with the administrator account and share never-before-seen Nintendo features with a friend.” The entry also reportedly said the incident was unintentional.

In a statement to On the edgeGoogle spokesperson Matt Bryant says every flag reported by 404 Media “it was reviewed and resolved at that time.” However, the company did not detail what it does to prevent employees from accessing and leaking content in advance.
