A GAMER has revealed a useful trick for PS5 and Xbox owners that solves their controller battery issues.
PlayStation’s DualShock 4 typically lasts four to eight hours of gameplay per charge.
And the Xbox controller, which uses AA batteries, should last up to 40 hours.
Of course, over time, devices can wear out, causing even less power.
And you can just plug the cable into the main machine if you’re lucky enough to be close to the console – although that can also be a hassle.
However, a Reddit player shared his hack to get around this issue.
And just use a power bank that you would normally use for a smartphone.
“So I initially bought a used Series S because of budget issues and the PS5 was pretty much out of my reach,” wrote user ProgrammerAccurate88.
“The Xbox S fulfilled my dream of owning a console and playing AAA titles.
“However, the battery has always been an issue for me, so I created my own solution (jugaad as we call it in India) and used my power bank to power the controller, making it portable and maintaining the wireless feel.
“I know some people will call it cheap, but actually this powerbank backup lasts more than 10 to 15 days.
“I don’t have to change batteries regularly or rush to charge my device. It’s a smooth browsing experience.”
Some other users welcomed the simple advice.
“Honestly, genius idea,” wrote one.
“I’ll follow what you just did.”
Another added: “My guy, your ingenuity is spot on, accept my upvote.”
Important Tips to Save Controller Battery

There are a few ways to help save your controller’s battery
- Lower the speaker volume on the PS5 controller
- Decrease the intensity of the vibration feature
- Decrease or disable trigger effects
- Reduce controller brightness
- Mute the controller’s built-in microphone
But others have suggested that gamers should opt for rechargeable batteries.
“If you’re using things you already have then you’ve done a good job, but I would consider getting some refillable ones,” replied one player.
A second person added: “I use some Duracell and Energizer rechargeable batteries.
“They last about 15 hours of play without asking me for change.
