Nintendo finally confirms the Switch 2 and it will arrive sooner than expected

NINTENDO Switch fans have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of a successor to the console, and now it has finally been confirmed.

Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, took to Twitter to officially reveal, for the first time, that there is a “successor to the Nintendo Switch” and that it will be the company’s next console.

The tweet reads: “This is Furukawa, president of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch this fiscal year.”

Fiscal years are slightly different from calendar years, meaning the disclosure could occur any time between now and March 2025.

Furukawa continues: “It has been more than nine years since we announced the existence of the Nintendo Switch in March 2015.”

If the Switch 2 pipeline is similar to the original Switch, we could have the new console in about a year.

The first Nintendo Switch trailers were released in October 2016, and the consoles hit stores just a few months later in March 2017.

Furukawa also provided fans with another announcement regarding a previously unannounced Nintendo Direct.

However, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up too much as he confirms that this is not when the console will be revealed.

It says: “We will be holding a Nintendo Direct in June about the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the second half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

However, as this is the first time the Switch 2 has been officially confirmed by Nintendo, it appears the console will arrive sooner than expected.
