PLAYSTATION 5 owners came to the rescue when another gamer sought advice on how to fix an infamous broken screen issue.
The call for help came in the form of a post on the popular PlayStation thread on Reddit.
“When I turn on my PS5 does this happen?” user jedmond12 titled the publish shared on Monday, including a photo of the issue.
Users were able to see a photo of the player’s TV screen, showing the PlayStation logo on a dark background behind repeating vertical green bars.
“I forgot to add: It only happens when I turn on the PS5nothing after that,” jedmond12 added in a comment.
The “green screen of death” is a common problem affecting devices that transfer visual information.
Fortunately, some players on Reddit recognized the common problem and offered some quick advice.
Many people bet that it is a problem with the HDMI cable or plug-in.
“Try gently shaking the HDMI cable. If anything happens then HDMI is 100% broken,” wrote one commenter.
“Defective HDMI at best and dying TV LED at worst. Choose what you want to check first,” she offered a second.
Others said they thought it might be a software bug.
“Have you ever tried changing the TV input to another source and then back? Mine does something similar (green lines, no PS logo) and changing the input to something else for a moment fixes the issue,” one player postulated.
“When mine Xbox I did this, I had to reset the TV to factory defaults, nothing else solved the problem”, added another.
Eventually, jedmond12 gave an update.
“It’s probably the HDMI because I turned on the switch and the green lines didn’t appear, so I just think it’s a bad HDMI cable. I changed the cable a few times and the problem went away,” he said in a reply.

- Next, make sure you don’t give away too much storage space for Trophies; Turn off automatic recording by going to Settings > Captures & Broadcasts
- Consider deleting the pre-installed Astro’s Playroom game – this will instantly free up 10.98 GB of space and you can reinstall it at any time if you change your mind

Players experiencing difficulties can also try exiting ‘Rest Mode’.
This function allows users to activate a PS5 in just a few seconds, but it can sometimes cause glitches.

More specific instructions for resets can be found online or in the console’s user guide.
If nothing else works, players can contact PlayStation Repairs for a professional solution.
