PlayStation 5 players are getting a much-requested free update – here’s what’s coming

PS5 players will soon be able to use a long-awaited feature completely free of charge as it rolls out across all consoles in the coming weeks.

The free update adds more ways to connect with players directly from the console for a seamless experience.

PlayStation 5 players will finally be able to join Discord voice chat without relying on PC and mobile apps to start chatting.

Sony first introduced Discord integration on the PS5 last year, but the implementation was inconvenient and many players wanted an easier way to chat.

Discord chat currently requires players to first join voice channels on their phone and then manually transfer the call to the PS5.

The next free update, which Sony will gradually roll out over the next few weeks, will allow PS5 owners to join chats directly from the console.

PlayStation players in Japan and other Asian countries will receive the update first.

They will soon be followed by European, Australian and finally American players.

To get the new feature, you’ll need to update your PS5 when prompted, and you’ll be asked to link your Discord and PSN accounts if you haven’t already done so.

Participating in both voice channels on Discord servers and DM group chats will be a breeze after the update.

A new Discord tab will be added to the Game Base tab in the PS5 Control Center, where you usually find your PSN friends.

The new section will list all the Discord servers you are a member of, with all the voice channels available to join, as well as direct voice chats with your friends and DM groups.
