BANANA was one of the most popular Steam games in June, even though it had almost no gameplay.

The entire ‘game’ consists of clicking on the image of a banana to make a number go up, and yet it had an all-time high of 917,272 players.

Although it hasn’t seen spikes like this in weeks, it still has a very large player base, with between 300,000 and 400,000 concurrent players at any one time.

The reason people are playing it is because every three hours Banana runs, it will release a Steam item that can be sold on the Steam Market Place.

They are currently selling for pennies, but the most expensive one sold for more than £1,000 ($1,300).

Since the success of Banana, several other clicker games have emerged, all with a similar premise.

Cats was the next game to appear; In it, the cat changes design and color depending on how many times you click on it.

While the base game is free to play, there is also DLC that can be purchased, including an art book, soundtrack, and extra cats.

Likewise, Cats also adds Steam items to its inventory, with the most expensive ones currently selling for around $10/£8.

Although not as popular as Banana, Cats had a maximum of 90,000 concurrent players, with around 30,000 people playing at the same time.

Hamster is one of the latest clicker games, with an image of a hamster that twitches when you click on it.

The amount of shaking changes randomly, but has the same effect as dropping an item, only this time every 90 minutes.

Hamster is also the least popular of these three, with a peak of less than 20,000 people and only hundreds playing at the time of writing.

Many have compared these games to crypto mining or minting NFTs, as players are spending time to earn items with no apparent value.

People hope this trend will end and that Steam won’t be flooded with more idle clickers.
