FREE-TO-PLAY gamers were eating well earlier this month with the release of two major new games together.
First Descent surprised fans with its high-quality graphics, but players were upset by its expensive microtransactions and pay-to-win purchases.
Not long after, the open-world survival game Once Human was released and was an immediate hit with gamers.
There was a peak of over 230,000 concurrent players on Steam in its first week and has maintained consistent numbers ever since.
However, there have been some negative reviews since launch, with players complaining about game-breaking updates.
An update on July 18 was a sore spot for players as people’s bases were destroyed and items went missing.
The Starry Studio team said they will replace all deleted items and offer other “compensation,” but people were still upset.
The team wrote: “[The] Issues have been identified and are being resolved as quickly as possible.”
Despite this, negative reviews started flooding the Steam page and it seems the developer was disappointed with the response.
Kotaku claims that the team posted a call to action for positive reviews on the game’s Discord server, but it was quickly deleted.
The reporter claims that he only captured the message when he received a notification from the server.
However, by the time they went to the server, the message had already been removed.
One of the rules in the Steam Terms of Service states: “Do not artificially manipulate the user rating system or voting/rating systems.”
This rule includes asking people to leave positive reviews as this would change the game’s overall rating.
It’s unclear whether the quick deletion means the comment doesn’t violate the terms of service.
Since then, reviews have evened out and the game has ‘mostly positive’ reviews on Steam.
