EA Sports FC 25 is gearing up for its September 2024 release, and football fans are eager to know what’s coming (and what’s not) in the upcoming video game.
EA FC is known for having the most licensed clubs, stadiums and tournaments than any other football game, but two important teams will not return in the next entry.
A big draw for fans of the series is the authentic feeling of playing as some of the most popular real-life football clubs, which is also why so many people buy the latest game every year.
Italian Serie A fans will be disappointed as two of the top league clubs will not be available in EA FC 25 due to licensing issues.
AC Milan and Inter, two of the best teams in the world, will not be coming as both clubs have signed exclusive deals with rival game eFootball, formerly known as Pro Evolution Soccer (PES).
The news that EA Sports FC lost the licenses for the two clubs’ names was confirmed by the game’s vice president of brand, David Jackson, in an interview with Sports Gazette.
This means that in EA Sports FC 25, AC Milan and Inter will have different names, logos and kits, to avoid violating the clubs’ agreements with rival publisher Konami.
The two clubs’ iconic stadium, San Siro, which is the largest in Italy, will also not be at the next game.
The Milan-based powerhouses are two of Italy’s best clubs and the best-performing Italian teams in UEFA Champions League history.
Even though the two teams will not be present at EA FC 25 in an authentic way, all of their players will be in the game.
The rights to use players’ names and images are governed by an agreement EA Sports has with football players’ union FIFPro.
There is also other good news for Serie A fans – two other Italian clubs are returning in EA Sports FC 25.
After several years away from the series, SSC Napoli and AS Roma are back with multi-year licensing deals announced last week.
Napoli were removed from FIFA 23 for the first time, and Roma have not appeared in the series of games since FIFA 21.
