Apparently, Walmart is preparing to launch a new Onn “Pro” Google TV 4K streaming box that is also a smart speaker. Yesterday, YouTuber Superdell-TV organized a live broadcast where he showed off the streaming device, which he said he purchased at the retailer’s store for $50. 9to5Google noted todayOnn Pro was already previous rumors but it hasn’t been announced, so it may have been stocked by mistake as it doesn’t appear on Walmart’s website yet.
The device is essentially a fancier version of the Onn Google TV streaming box that Walmart already sells. According to the specs shared by Superdell, in addition to 4K streaming and Chromecast support, the Onn Pro box includes support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. It also has 3 GB of RAM, comes with 32 GB of storage and also supports Wi-Fi 6, with four rear ports: one HDMI, one USB 3.0, one Ethernet and a cylindrical connector for power. This is compared to the cheapest existing modelwhich also has a Google TV interface and 4K streaming, but offers just 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, Wi-Fi 5, no Dolby Vision, and a single HDMI port (plus a Micro USB power port).
The big surprise is the device itself. It looks like a square Google Nest Mini, with a fabric-covered speaker on top and a built-in microphone for calling Google Assistant. Just like Google’s Nest Home speakers, there’s a button to disable the microphone. With support for Google Assistant, the Onn Pro could be the best bang for your buck at $50 of any streaming box you can buy – assuming it stays at that price when it launches.
Since Walmart has yet to announce the Onn Pro, it’s unclear when it will launch, but since Superdell has already found one on store shelves, it looks like a launch is imminent.
