Opera browser users can get more up-to-date information and more conversational responses because integrates Google Gemini AI models in your existing Aria AI extension.

Aria, released last year, acts as an AI assistant to answer user queries, write code, and perform other tasks. According to Opera, Aria does not rely on an AI model to respond to users, but chooses the AI model it thinks will work best for the specific task. With this new integration, Aria can leverage Gemini, which the company says provides Opera users with “the most current information with high performance.”

Aria is available on all Opera browsers, including the gaming browser, Opera GX.

With the new integration, Opera users can hear Aria reading her responses aloud “in a conversational manner.” Google’s text-to-audio AI models power Aria’s read-aloud capabilities in a similar way to ChatGPT’s Read Aloud feature, which reads chatbot results. (And this already featured Sky voice, which OpenAI recently retired.)

This isn’t the first time Opera has worked with Google’s AI models. Aria added a imaging feature in April using Google’s Imagen 2 model, which allows users to generate images directly from the Opera browser.
