Google is launching its new productivity app Vids in Workspace Labs with the idea that “if you can make a slide, you can make a video in Vids”. Announced in April, Vids allows users to place documents, slides, voiceovers, and video recordings on a timeline to create a presentation video to share with coworkers. Making it available in the Workspace Labs preview allows Workspace admins to choose to let users try out the AI-powered video creator.
While you can generate video in videos, it shouldn’t be confused with AI tools like OpenAI’s Sora, which can create realistic images from a prompt. Instead, Vids is about generating a presentation describing what you want Gemini to create and allowing you to change the video later.
You can also manually start drafting your Google Vids presentation using one of the many available templates, and there is royalty-free stock content to enhance your creation.
However, as the demonstration video showsThe main feature is to use Gemini to automatically insert footage for you, generate your script, and even provide AI narration for your next presentation without you saying a word.
