A new Nest Learning Thermostat could be on the way

Leaked images posted on X by @MysteryLupin show a fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat and new temperature sensors, as well as several other thermostats: Nest E, Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd generation). Missing from the photos is the Nest Thermostat (2020), likely because it’s not compatible with Nest’s room sensors.

The new addition is similar to the third-generation model, but appears to have a more curved screen while retaining the physical dial, like pointed out by 9to5Google. The screen is likely touch-sensitive, as with the third-generation model, and the image shows a new icon with three wavy lines.

This indicates that the new thermostat is also an indoor air quality monitor, which would be a new feature for Nest thermostats. A leaked screenshot of the Google Home app with a new weather screen corroborates this theory, showing an air quality index score.

Since the Nest E, which has been discontinued in the US, is pictured, this could indicate that, unlike the Nest Thermostat (2020), the new model will also be released in Europe.

The thermostat appears to work with a redesigned Nest Temperature Sensor (second generation), which, like the current models, can be mounted on the wall or placed on a table. However, it is not Nest branded at the moment and is rounder and softer. Posts indicate they will cost $39 each, or three for $99, and will have a three-year battery life.

It’s the same price as current sensors, which feed the temperature of other rooms in your home to the thermostat to help balance heating and cooling. But as we said in our review, they are limited compared to competitors like the Ecobee in that they don’t detect presence. We hope these new versions bring more functions.

It’s been a long time since Google released a new learning thermostat, which can adapt to your heating and cooling patterns rather than following a schedule like the newer, cheaper Nest Thermostat does.
