Disney’s newest Star Wars Show, The AcolyteThere’s only a month left on Disney Plus, and the latest trailer suggests the show will follow a thread that Rian Johnson Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi Pulled in 2017: Is the Jedi Order Really That Good?

Set well before the events of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, The Acolyte sees High Republic-era Jedi master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) investigating a series of murders (which include at least one Jedi). Today’s trailer reveals that the mysterious Mae (Amandla Stenberg), dressed in black, is a former student of his and it looks like she’s likely a suspect in the murders. It also reinforces the idea that this will be a particularly dark series.

It also features a zipper-faced villain whose red lightsaber comes to life in a foggy jungle, apparently just before a fight with Sol. It’s a mystery who is wearing the scarred helmet, which bears more than a passing resemblance. with that of Kylo Ren in the most recent Star Wars trilogy. Maybe it’s the show’s big problem, or maybe it’s just a scary dream Sol is having. Or perhaps Disney is preparing to tell us the Sith legend of the “Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise” that Emperor Palpatine gifted Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode III.

One thing is for sure: whoever this villain is, they maintain the long tradition of the Sith (assuming that’s what they are) by making the Jedi look like total idiots. The Acolyte’It is stars include Carrie-Anne Moss, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman and Joonas Suotamo, and will premiere on June 4 with two episodes on Disney Plus.
