I’m excited to announce Notepada new weekly newsletter that I will write on On the edge.

Notepad is an inside look at my notes on Microsoft, a company I’ve spent the last 20 years trying to understand through my reporting, information, and analysis. This newsletter is designed to uncover the secrets and strategy behind Microsoft’s decisive bets on AI, gaming, and the future of computing.

Whether it’s Windows, a new AI Copilot, the next Xbox, or every Microsoft Michael being added to a mysterious email list, Notepad is the place to get the latest on all things Microsoft. Expect to read exclusives and analyzes you won’t find anywhere else, interviews that delve deeper into Microsoft’s big bets, and some gossip from within the walls of Microsoft’s campus in Redmond, Washington.

You can sign up here. New subscribers receive a one-month free trial with the option to pay $7 per month or $70 per year. Free subscribers will receive a collection of important Microsoft stories you might have missed, occasional previews of the all-access you get, and some of my Microsoft reporting for On the edge.

And check out our integrated plan where you can get both Notepad It is Command Line by Alex Heath for a discounted rate of $100 per year.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve told thousands of stories about Microsoft. Some of my first major reports included details about a Windows 2000 source code leakthousands of Hotmail accounts passwords that have been posted onlineand regular information about Windows versions. I led the technology news site Neowin how editor-in-chief in the early 2000s, then created WinRumors — my own blog about Microsoft — in 2010.

I also spent more than a decade working at several multinational investment banks, gaining a solid background in software engineering and Windows before selling WinRumors for Vox Media and joining On the edge full-time in 2012.

Notepad I’ll continue my experience covering Microsoft, and I want this to feel like a direct connection to me and an important resource for you. I’ll encourage comments about what you’d like to read more about and areas where I can dive deeper into reporting on Microsoft.

Lastly, I want to thank all of my colleagues who helped make this newsletter possible, especially Thomas Ricker, Esther Cohen, Jake Kastrenakes, Kara Verlaney, Helen Havlak, Nilay Patel, Will Joel, Graham MacAree, and Cath Virginia.
