Microsoft is making Skype ad-free in an update coming soon to users on all platforms. The update also includes improved AI imaging tools in Skype for Windows and macOS, and the ability to automatically sign in on iOS if you’re already signed in to another Microsoft app.

Removing ads in Skype means you will no longer see ads in the main chat interface or channels section. Microsoft says it heard feedback about ads on Skype and decided to “focus on your chats without advertising distractions, making your Skype experience cleaner and easier to use.”

Skype’s Today section will remain, complete with the news feed provided by MSN. It’s a tab that I’m sure most Skype users ignore, but you can still disable it in Settings > Appearance if you want to get rid of it completely.

Along with removing ads in Skype, Microsoft is also improving the AI imaging capabilities within the app on Windows and macOS. You will soon be able to quickly access the AI image maker in chat windows, and AI-generated images will expand with one click. Microsoft also fixed some user interface elements, while also making the image creator feel more comfortable with Apple’s macOS design.

Microsoft is also bringing OneAuth integration to Skype for iOS, which lets you sign in to the app automatically if you’re already using another Microsoft app. If you are having trouble sending photos or videos over 5G with Skype, Microsoft has also fixed this bug in the next update that will be available in the next few days.
