APPLE’s next sophisticated AI devices for iPhone may not all be free as fans hoped.

The tech giant made waves in June when it announced Apple Intelligence, with a series of big changes and new features.

Siri is among the list of improvements that will have ChatGPT integrated.

This will allow the 13-year-old voice assistant to do things like prioritize your notifications based on your habits, as well as review and summarize what you’ve written.

Most of the changes are expected to arrive in the free iOS 18 update later this year.

But analysts have warned that some premium Apple Intelligence features may come at a cost.

Experts say users can pay up to $20/£15 a month to access them.

One possible idea is to include it in the Apple One subscription plan, which currently offers people Apple Music, iCloud storage, and Apple TV+.

“Software and services make it more profitable for Apple to pass them on with the Apple One subscription model,” said Neil Shah of Counterpoint Research. CNBC.

iPhone fans are not happy with the suggestion, saying they refuse to pay for extras.

“So… who exactly do they expect to pay this?” one wrote on Reddit.

“No chance, boys,” said another.

“I won’t pay a penny for this,” added a third.

Other companies are already charging for cutting-edge AI capabilities.

Google’s Gemini AI has an advanced level that users have to pay for.

Samsung is considering charging for Galaxy AI features, promising to keep them free until the end of 2025 for now.

Apple’s services division includes subscriptions to platforms like Apple Music and iCloud.

And it’s among the company’s most profitable today, having raised $24.2 billion/£18.8 billion for the company in the last quarter.

“Apple is one of the few connected device companies that has successfully monetized the value-added services it offers,” Ben Wood, head of research at CCS Insight, told CNBC.

“As a result, it has set a precedent with its users that they have to pay for more premium services.

“Based on this, it cannot be ruled out that Apple may choose to charge for more advanced features in its Apple Intelligence offering.”

Apple is expected to launch new iPhones in September, the month in which the company usually launches devices to the world.

iPhone Tricks to Try Today

Here are some of the best…

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the spacebar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, allowing you to move words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapping squares in the bottom right corner and press close all tabs
  • Delete many photos quickly – Long press a photo and drag your finger diagonally across Photos to select multiple images at once and click delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of the home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), tap the bar and enter a currency (like $200) and it will automatically convert to your local currency
  • Check if you need a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and check the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally, a battery is considered exhausted when its capacity is reduced to 80%. If it’s below, you can buy a battery change from Apple
  • Move apps faster – Hold an app until it starts to jiggle, then (while holding) tap other apps, making them stack so you can move them more easily
