SONY has launched a smart little gadget just in time for summer that could replace the classic fan – if you can afford it.
The tech giant has revealed a bizarre, futuristic body air conditioner that can be placed on the back of your shirt.
Launching in the UK today, Sony’s so-called “smart wearable thermal device kit”, dubbed the Reon Pocket 5, is available to pre-order from April 23 for £139.
Although it is the fifth generation of the Reon Pocket, it is the first iteration of the device that has been introduced to the UK market.
It can be worn around your neck to blow cool or warm air at you.
So it’s also being marketed for winter use – and could be perfect for those of us who run on the colder side.
It is sold as a remedy for sweaty summer travel, to a large number of consumers who can find themselves in train carriages that more closely resemble packets of sardines.
There are two different airflow accessories to allow heat to escape from the device, which Sony says is suitable for both professional and casual use.
According to Sony, the fifth generation gadget has up to 1.5 times greater heat absorption and up to 1.8 times greater operating time.
The Reon Pocket 5 takes around two hours to fully charge and can last around 10 hours on the rechargeable battery.

The company also chose a new fan design this time around, which means it can cool – or heat – you more efficiently without making noise behind your ear.
The gadget has a ‘smart cold to warm mode’ function that automatically switches between cool and warm modes depending on the environment.
The Reon Pocket Tag that comes with the device can detect sunlight, so users don’t have to receive heat from both directions.
