IF you’ve overslept or been late to work recently, don’t worry – just tell your boss that your iPhone was to blame.
Apple today confirmed that a software bug is silencing scheduled alarms on iPhones around the world.
With the heyday of bedside alarm clocks approaching, more people than ever are relying on their smartphones to wake them up in the morning.
Apple said it is “aware of an issue causing some iPhone alarms to not play the expected sound,” according to the report and “is working on a fix.”
I can’t wait to see the “Boss, this is why I was late” in the group chat.

This follows a series of complaints made by iPhone owners on social media, who claim that the alarm will appear on their screens, but without sound.
“Wait, is that how I overslept in a meeting last week?” an Apple customer asked on X (formerly Twitter).
“I never do that, and my wife and baby slept well too.
“I just assumed I somehow silenced him while he was still asleep.”
Other he wrote: “I thought I was going crazy or sleeping too tight.”
While a third tweeted: “I can’t wait to see “Boss, this is why I was late” in the group chat.”

Not all iPhone owners were affected – and some people made their phone’s alarms redundant some time ago.
“Get a kid. Guaranteed to wake up (early). Every. Single. Day,” a viewer he joked.
Bugs of this type are usually related to some kind of time change.
A similar alarm bug occurred around 2010, caused by daylight saving time, Ars Technica pointed out.
It’s unclear exactly when Apple will release a fix, although iPhone owners will need an iOS update.
The next iOS update, iOS 17.5, is expected to hit devices in the coming weeks.
This could happen between May 7 and 14, according to Forbes estimates.
