ANDROID owners are shaking their fists at Google once again after the tech company removed a beloved feature.
The ever-useful Nudges feature in Google Messages reminded users to respond to their contacts’ text messages and birthdays.
The feature, launched in late 2021, was one of the first examples of Google’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) in its messaging app.
It’s a must-have for those of us who forget when it comes to birthdays.

But Google is believed to be retiring the feature with little explanation, according to 9to5Google, sparking outrage among users.
“Why Google… loved the birthday pokes,” said an Android owner he said on X (formerly Twitter).
Other added: “Why remove birthday reminders, [it] seems like a good logical reminder to have!”
The feature reportedly no longer appears in the latest beta version of Google Messages.
This means it’s likely to go away once this beta turns into an official stable update.
While Nudges appear to be gone forever, Google has kept the Smart Reply, Suggested Actions, Magic Composition, and Suggestion Stickers features.

It’s unclear whether Google will offer a replacement for Nudges.
If this happens, it is expected to be announced at the highly anticipated Google I/O 2024 event taking place later this month.
