IPHONE owners have praised a battery-saving hack that kicks in automatically and gives them “several extra hours” of power.
It reinforces Apple’s built-in Low Power Mode, which iPhone owners are prompted to activate when their device’s battery reaches 20%.
If your iPhone regularly runs out of battery before the end of the day, Low Power Mode is a way to make it last longer.
But reaching 20% is too late for some.
And few realize they can actually customize the battery percentage that triggers the setting.
Using Apple’s Shortcuts app, iPhone owners can automatically turn on Low Power Mode when the battery reaches a custom level.
“I set up an automation to activate mine at 40%,” said an experienced iPhone owner he wrote in a post on Reddit.
“It also works as a reminder for me to charge my phone. I feel like 20% is a little low.”
iPhone owners can alternatively enable Low Power Mode manually at any time by going to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode.
How to Customize the Low Power Mode Trigger
First, you want to open the Shortcuts app.
If you can’t find the app, search for it in the search bar on your home screen.
Once you’re inside the app, tap the Automation tab at the bottom of the screen.
So you want to click on + button in the top right corner.
Then scroll down and select Battery Level of options.
To check Drops below 50% and drag the slider to adjust the percentage level for when Low Power Mode should be activated.
Turn off the button next to Ask before you run to ensure the automation runs in the background and tap Next.
After that, look for Set Low Power Mode and select the card in the results and tap Next.
Lastly, tap Done in the upper right corner of the screen.
Your personal automation set to low power mode should now trigger automatically whenever your iPhone reaches the selected percentage.
I use low power mode whenever I leave the house.

For example, email must be retrieved manually, background app refresh is turned off, and motion and brightness are reduced.
“I use Low Power Mode every time I leave the house,” said a second iPhone owner he said in another Reddit post. “When I’m home, I turn it off.”
While a third person added: “Since I always keep the battery charge between 20-90%, I don’t use it often.
“But [it] It definitely gives you several extra hours if you turn it on, so it’s a good option when traveling.”
