With just a few months to go until the launch of the iPhone 16, The Sun has collected every snippet of gossip that has surfaced in the rumor mill so far.

Apple, of course, remains tight-lipped about the device expected to hit stores this fall.

Leaked images of dummy iPhone 16 units show a new capture button on the right side of the devices, as well as an action button on all four iPhone 16 models

Screen and layout

The ‌iPhone 16‌ Pro models were always expected to have larger screens than the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 Pro models, according to several analysts and leaked project images.

But images from the reliable leaker Sonny Dickson on X (formerly Twitter) suggests the new lineup may be too difficult.

Rumor has it that the size of the device will increase from the 6.7 inches of the iPhone 15 Pro Max to a whopping 16.9 inches.

This increased size could then become the standard iPhone 17 size unless there are complaints from customers, MacRumors suggested.

Separate images of dummy units from Sonny Dickson in April imply that the iPhone 16 will bring the return of vertically arranged camera lenses.

A vertical arrangement hasn’t been seen since the iPhone 12.

In addition to its size, the Pro version of the iPhone 16 is reported to boast a 20% brighter screen.

Colors

Leaked fictional models discovered on Chinese social media site Weibo by MacRumorssuggest that Apple is considering seven different colors for the iPhone 16.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus came in just five colors: black, blue, green, yellow and pink.

Rumor has it that Apple will keep the same five colors but add two more: white and purple.

White iPhones were extremely popular in the 2010s, but they disappeared with the iPhone 12 in 2020.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 has a number of great AI features

That’s if we discount the iPhone 13’s Starlight hue, which is described as a warm white.

The pastel tones of recent gadgets – from Apple as well as companies like Samsung, Motorola and Google – suggest that the era of bright tech hues is over.

The iPhone 15 Pro came in four soothing hues: Natural Titanium, Blue Titanium, White Titanium, and Black Titanium.

While the iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to retain most of these finishes, it could swap out Blue Titanium and Black Titanium for Rose and Space Black hues.

AI Features

Following in Samsung’s footsteps, Apple is prepared to bet on features powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

Apple is looking to make Siri smarter in iOS 18, the software update that will arrive alongside the iPhone 16.

According to BloombergApple was caught off guard by the tech industry’s AI frenzy and has since been racing to make up for lost time.

Apple boss Tim Cooks says the company has been working on its own generative AI technology, the same technology behind ChatGPT.

So far, Apple has only introduced AI to improve automatic corrections.

But a “smarter version of Siri” integrated with AI could be ready as early as next year, Bloomberg reported.

A separate report from Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News stated that the iPhone 16 will have an updated neural engine, which will increase performance to facilitate all these great AI features.

New volume buttons

There were rumors that the iPhone 15 Pro models would feature a ‘buttonless’ design – but that didn’t come to fruition.

While rumors suggested that Apple would introduce this with the iPhone 16 Pro models, leaked dummy units suggest otherwise.

The dummy units show a new capture button on the right side of the devices, as well as an action button on all four iPhone 16 models.

Currently, the action button is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

What does a ‘buttonless’ design mean?

The device would not be completely “buttonless”, but it would give the feeling that it was.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that Apple would “likely” use solid-state buttons for the iPhone 16 Pro — buttons that don’t physically move, but will vibrate slightly to mimic the sensation of pressing them.

Record cost

Unsurprisingly, there is talk that the iPhone 16 will become Apple’s most expensive device yet.

The iPhone 15’s production costs are much higher than last year’s iPhone 14 models.

Apple may pass this record component on to customers in 2024 when the iPhone 16 launches, according to a report. Nikkei Asia report.

Faster Wi-Fi Speeds

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the iPhone 16 Pro models could adopt Wi-Fi 7 – the next generation of internet technology.

This means that browsing the internet on the device will be up to 2.4 times faster than on the iPhone 15.

USB-C port

What we do know is that the iPhone 16 models will have USB-C charging ports.

Now that the lightning cable has been dropped with the iPhone 15, it seems certain that USB-C ports will be the standard from now on.

Higher quality camera

It’s hard to imagine how the camera quality on iPhones can improve much, but it’s up to Apple to try to pull it out of the bag before fall next year.

A theory, which emerged from Chinais that the iPhone 16 will feature Apple’s first super-telephoto periscope, for dramatically increased optical zoom.

Top secret model

While there has been a lot of talk about an iPhone 15 Ultra model from industry insiders, Apple’s Wanderlust event proved that the rumors were just hot air.

That said, viewers have pushed their expectations for a new, long-awaited Ultra model back a year to 2024.

Apple is hoping to introduce an Ultra model in its iPhone 16 lineup, which Bloomberg’s Gurman says will have the best of everything: camera setup, display and perhaps even a better processor.

If dreams really do come true, then it’s possible that the coveted periscope camera could be exclusive to the iPhone 16 Ultra.

Release date of

Apple just counted down the iPhone 15 release date, so we won’t be getting the iPhone 16 release date anytime soon.

Autumn is the company’s favorite season, with enough summer shenanigans to destroy your old iPhone enough for you to consider buying a new one – and tempt people before Christmas too.

Typically, Apple approaches the second Tuesday in September for its annual release date.

So we can expect the iPhone 16 – and a host of new products – to arrive around that time.

Last year, we correctly predicted the iPhone 15 release date.

And we also tried our luck by making an official prediction for the iPhone 16 release schedule.

Based on our math, we expect pre-orders for the iPhone 16 to go live on Friday, September 13th.

We’ll likely see the new iOS 18 software rolling out to existing iPhone owners on Monday, September 16th.

And the official launch date of the iPhone 16 in store would be Friday, September 20th.

iPhone Tricks to Try Today

Here are some of the best…

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the spacebar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, allowing you to move words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapping squares in the bottom right corner and press close all tabs
  • Delete many photos quickly – Long press a photo and drag your finger diagonally across Photos to select multiple images at once and click delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of the home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), tap the bar and enter a currency (like $200) and it will automatically convert to your local currency
  • Check if you need a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and check the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally, a battery is considered exhausted when its capacity is reduced to 80%. If it’s below, you can buy a battery change from Apple
  • Move apps faster – Hold an app until it starts to jiggle, then (while holding) tap other apps, making them stack so you can move them more easily
