If a person’s iPad or iPhone becomes too hot, it could permanently lead to reduced battery life, Apple warned in its statement. support page.

The tech giant said storing devices in a location where the temperature is between -4º and 113º F (-20º and 45ºC) is best practice.

Apple specifically warned against leaving devices in cars, as the temperature inside parked vehicles can easily exceed the suggested range.

The company also warned that any variation in temperature – whether hot or cold – could lead to the deactivation of some features and, in extreme cases, the iPhone itself would be disabled.

If the device is turned off, a thermometer will appear on the screen stating “Temperature. iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it.”

Although iPhones and iPads have built-in overheating protections, there are times when the device’s internal components exceed the ideal operating range.

Apple noted that devices may heat up regardless of the outside temperature in certain scenarios.

You may notice that your phone feels warm when setting up the device for the first time, restoring data from a backup, charging the device wirelessly, streaming high-quality video, and several other things.

The tech brand claims that the best way to avoid overheating would be to avoid leaving the device in a hot car all day, leaving the phone in direct sunlight, and using features (like navigation) while leaving the phone in the sun.

According to Apple, device users will quickly notice when the internal components overheat.

One of the signs will be that loading slows down or stops, the screen goes dark and some features are disabled.

The same goes for when the device gets too cold.

“Using an iOS or iPadOS device in very cold conditions outside its operating range may temporarily reduce battery life and cause the device to turn off,” Apple wrote in its guide.

The company noted that battery life should return to normal once you bring the device back into the normal temperature range.

“Your iOS or iPadOS device may not charge or stop charging if it gets too cold,” warns the guide.

If your device exceeds normal temperatures while restoring a backup, the restore may be temporarily interrupted.

What Causes Your iPhone to Overheat and How to Avoid It

Apple warns that your device will slow down and permanently lose battery if you don’t protect it from extreme temperatures.

Ways to Overheat Your iPhone:

  • Setting up your device for the first time
  • Restoring from a backup
  • Charging your phone wirelessly
  • Using graphics- or processor-intensive applications
  • High-quality video streaming

How to prevent your device from overheating:

  • Avoid leaving it in the car on a hot day
  • Avoid leaving your device exposed to direct sunlight for a long time
  • Using features (such as navigation) in hot conditions or direct sunlight.

The message will be: “Restore paused. iCloud restore will resume when this [device] cool.”

Don’t be afraid, this won’t hinder the restore, just pause until the device returns to an acceptable temperature range.
