“It is with great strength that we have decided to end our collaboration with Samsung,” the company said he said in a brief statement on X, the social media platform that used to be Twitter.

“Despite many efforts, Samsung’s approach to repairability is not aligned with our mission.”

iFixit went more in-depth into their website.

“Two years ago, we launched iFixit’s Samsung Repair Hub with the goal of building an incredible, easy-to-repair ecosystem,” they wrote.

“Our goal was to set the gold standard for repair documentation and empower local independent repair companies with the tools and parts they need to thrive while keeping Galaxy devices running.”

According to the statement: “Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to deliver on this promise.”

The company added that they “consistently faced obstacles that made us doubt Samsung’s commitment to making repairs more affordable.”

“We were unable to get parts to local repair shops at prices and quantities that made business sense. Part prices were so expensive that many consumers chose to replace their devices rather than repair them.”

“Despite skepticism from the repair community, we have attempted to work with Samsung to create repair documentation for some early devices,” they continued.

“However, flashy press releases It is ambitious initiatives It doesn’t mean much without follow-up.”

The company claims that it has already had problems with Samsung regarding the Galaxy Upcycling program.

According to the company, Samsung announced the initiative, but then fantasized about iFixit “and never launched it”.

“We tried to make it work. Gee, we tried,” the site continued. “But with such divergent priorities, we can no longer proceed.”

“Samsung doesn’t seem interested in enabling large-scale repairs,” said iFixit CEO and co-founder Kyle Wiens. On the edge.

Samsung – a brief history

Here’s what you need to know…

  • Samsung is a large South Korean company made up of many companies operating globally
  • It is known locally as “chaebol”, which means “business conglomerate”
  • It was founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company
  • But over several decades, it branched out into food processing, insurance, textiles and retail.
  • It was only in the late 1960s that Samsung entered the electronics industry – for which it is now best known in the West.
  • It also launched construction and shipbuilding businesses in the 1970s
  • Today, Samsung’s most important sources of income are its smartphones and computer chips
  • The company is responsible for about a fifth of South Korea’s total exports and about 17% of the country’s GDP.
  • More than 270,000 employees are employed by Samsung worldwide
  • And in 2023, Samsung Electronics earned the equivalent of US$194 billion in revenue

IFixit states that starting in June, they will no longer be Samsung’s designated third-party distributors of parts and tools.

Several X users were furious at the news.

“Disappointed with Samsung”, one person he wrote. “World leaders, but not in helping the environment. That’s why they want your trade-ins, so they can ditch your phone and increase sales. Shame on you.”

“Anyway, it stopped being a brand very recently. Garbage”, a second person mocked.

The inflammatory statement against Samsung comes months after several users complained about their phones.

In April, Samsung owners took to Reddit in a thread called “We were spoiled back then” to discuss the current state of phones.

“I bet in a few years phone brands will stop including cables too,” one person commented after several group photos showed how newer phones were packaged compared to what older phones included.

With older phones, the package included a Galaxy S10+, headphones, a charging wire with charging plug, a plastic phone case, a SIM ejector tool, and some instructions.

The latest model only came with the phone, a charging cable and no plug.

“They even stopped including replacement tips for the s-pen, which is strange if they’re still going to sell the s-pen with devices,” another person added.

Samsung defended the change by saying that having fewer items in packaging was due to environmental concerns.

“Samsung believes that gradually removing charger plugs and earphones from device packaging can help solve the growing e-waste problem,” the company wrote on its website.

The company added that it was “trying to eliminate unnecessary waste of resources by prioritizing compatibility between product components.”
