APPLE is just days away from releasing iOS 18 – which is set to be the ‘biggest’ iPhone update in the company’s history.

The Silicon Valley giant will hold its annual WWDC developer conference at its California headquarters next week, where it is expected to showcase new iOS 18 features.

iOS 18 won’t officially hit iPhones until the fall.

But the beta version of the software — designs for testing for a limited number of iPhone owners — will launch on June 10, according to MacRumors.

The next major iPhone update — codenamed Crystal — “will have ambitious changes throughout,” Apple software engineering chief Craig Federighi told employees earlier this year, according to a Bloomberg report.

Many of these ambitious changes revolve around new features powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

Apple is rumored to have invested heavily in building its own AI capabilities as Android advances with the Google Gemini chatbot and Samsung’s Galaxy AI camera boost.

This is the same AI technology used in ChatGPT that allows the chatbot to answer questions as if it were a human.

On Apple Music, AI could also be used to create “automatically generated playlists,” according to the report.

RCS Support

In October last year, Apple released the surprise bulletin that RCS support would reach iPhones in 2024.

RCS, or Rich Communication Services, is the successor to SMS and MMS.

Apple will pay up to $349 of the $35 million settlement — but Americans only have hours to see if their iPhone qualifies

It will bring a number of iMessage-style features to texting between iPhone and Android users, including:

  • High resolution photos and videos
  • Audio messages
  • Typing indicators
  • Read receipts
  • Wi-Fi Messaging Between iPhones and Android Devices
  • Improved group chats, including the ability for iPhone users to leave a conversation that includes Android users
  • Improved encryption compared to SMS
  • Share location with people in text conversations

These modern features are now available to Blue Bubble iMessage users in iPhone-to-iPhone conversations.

But they are not available when sending text messages to Android devices from an iPhone.
