IPHONE owners were surprised to discover a secret purpose for the line at the bottom of the screen.
The feature has existed for years and was created to replace the physical home button.
The iPhone X, released in 2017, was the first to adopt the line in a bid to give users more screen space overall.
People use the feature countless times every day to unlock their phone by swiping up from the bottom.
But it turns out the line has a little-known secondary purpose, as users on social media have been recently screaming about.
And it can save time when switching between apps.
Most people swipe up about a quarter and expect a carousel of all their previous apps to suddenly appear when they want to go back.
But it turns out there’s a much quicker way to wrap the line when you simply want to go back to the last app you used.
“How did I not know that?” one iPhone owner wrote on Instagram.
“I never knew that,” commented another.

To use the feature, you will need to have your iPhone unlocked and in use within an app.
Swipe along the line from left to right and you will be taken directly to the last used app.
Of course, if you want to access a much older app in your history, it’s quicker to follow the usual method.
