PRESERVING the battery is one of the main things people worry about most when it comes to smartphones.
So it’s no wonder that users are constantly looking for secret settings that increase their power.
Most know the basics by now, like low power mode and dimming backlight.
But there’s a little-known setting that might also be useful – depending on what kind of smartphone user you are and what power cord you have.
This clever configuration is known as bypass charging.
And it can increase the lifespan of your battery – thereby slowing the deterioration of your smartphone so you don’t have to pay for an upgrade anytime soon.
It exists on some Android phones, but here we are explaining how it works on Samsung devices – which they call Pause USB Power Delivery.
Bypass charging allows you to connect your smartphone to a power cord and power the device directly from it, instead of the battery.
Essentially, the battery sits idle – which is ideal whenever you leave your phone plugged in for prolonged periods, just touching it.
It also doesn’t produce as much heat as standard charging, so there’s less wear and tear on the battery and other components.

As soon as you unplug the device, it will go back to using the battery.
Think of it as a battery break while you’re still using your phone.
However, there are some caveats.
Firstly, it only works for gaming – this is because playing games on your smartphone can use up a lot of battery, create more heat, and you’re more likely to have your phone plugged in constantly.
It will only work with a 25W or higher power charger.
And you will need at least 20% battery.
It is also only available for certain devices.
