GOOGLE decided to reveal its new Pixel smartphones soon after several leaks.

The new Pixel 9 series isn’t expected to officially appear until next month.

But the increase was hampered by numerous images and videos leaked online.

To get ahead of the problem, the tech giant chose to reveal the new devices now – although exact features and technical details will still have to wait until August 13th.

Both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold were shown in the flesh for the first time by Google.

It also confirms that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will indeed have that name.

Having the number is key – it indicates that the Fold is joining the main family of Pixel devices, rather than sitting alongside it, meaning we could see new Fold launches each year alongside traditional phones.

The Pixel 9 Pro appeared in a promotional video heavily focused on the company’s latest AI device, Gemini.

In the Fold clip, we see that the camera will come in the form of dual lenses on the back of the device.

This is a change from the existing Pixel Fold, which is a more traditional, long but thin design for the camera housing.

“A foldable phone built for the Gemini era. Out with the old. In with the Fold,” Google said.

Fans also get a view of the internal main screen and the all-important hinge.

“This is a really good design, I can already see the improvement,” wrote one commenter on YouTube.

“So far this fold looks amazing!!! It looks like Team Pixel and Google are going to hit the sweet spot!!” another said.

A third added: “All eyes on you Apple, the foldable game is moving fast.”

Google also made a store page available for the devices, saying: “Get ready for a new era of phones.”

In addition to the features, the price will also be kept confidential until launch day in August.

But for comparison, the first Pixel Fold launched for £1,749 / $1,799.
