SAMSUNG is introducing tough new measures to stop people downloading dangerous apps – but not everyone is keen on the idea.
The technology giant is preparing a free update for Galaxy smartphones with a series of new features.
Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 will be the first to receive them, following their launch at the beginning of the month.
We’ve already heard about more interesting new tools, like greater image editing and even a WhatsApp benefit that the iPhone can’t currently offer.
But Samsung is also beefing up security.
The company is reportedly making it difficult to install sideloaded apps, according to Android Authority.
Ported apps are software downloaded outside of Samsung’s own Galaxy Store or Google Play Store.
These are generally considered quite risky as they do not go through the same vetting processes that the proper app stores do, meaning you could install a virus or unintentionally allow a bank rogue hacker into your device.
It all comes from Samsung’s Auto Blocker feature, designed to increase security and privacy.
Android already prevents users from installing third-party apps by default, so you usually need to enable it in settings.

While it exists for added security, one Samsung fan wrote on X: “It’s just another annoying hurdle for users.”
