APPLE has released its first AI features to some iPhone owners.

But the lucky few are so select that you’ll probably have to wait months to try them.

The tech giant unveiled a series of significant artificial intelligence (AI) upgrades in June.

The suite of new features, branded as Apple Intelligence, has been released to beta testers.

This is a small group of technology experts who test new features and discover any bugs before they are released to the public.

As part of Apple Intelligence, there’s a blockbuster update to Siri that will make the voice assistant more conversational like ChatGPT.

With an injection of AI, Siri can prioritize your notifications based on your habits.

It can also review and summarize things you’ve written – including emails you’ve written or received in the Mail app.

It will also understand the context of things within your apps and phones – like understanding when a meeting is being rescheduled in your emails and how that relates to other things you have planned.

However, a ChatGPT-integrated Siri will not be available in this current beta.

Neither does AI image creation or Genmoji features.

Apple Intelligence can also be used to create completely original images that can be customized for your iMessage conversations.

It works in a similar way to Bitmoji – but with a significant AI boost.

Another AI-powered iMessage boost is Genmoiji, which allows iPhone owners to generate custom emojis with text prompts.

AI features are expected to come to iPhones after the release of iOS 18, possibly in 2025.

There is no exact information about the launch of iOS 18, but the official prediction from The Sun is Monday, September 16th.

Apple says these five features will launch next year:

  • Image generation
  • Emoji generation
  • Automated photo cleaning
  • Other Siri improvements, including the ability to use your personal information and take actions within apps
  • OpenAI ChatGPT Integration

TIM COOK’S OFFICIAL WORD

Here’s what Apple CEO Tim Cook said about Apple Intelligence…

“We’re excited to introduce a new chapter in Apple innovation,” explained Tim.

“Apple Intelligence will transform what users can do with our products – and what our products can do for our users.

“Our unique approach combines generative AI with the user’s personal context to deliver truly actionable intelligence.

“And you can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do what matters most to them.

“This is AI, only Apple can deliver it, and we can’t wait for users to experience what it can do.”

Is my iPhone eligible?

Even after Apple Intelligence is rolled out to the rest of the iPhones, it won’t be available on all of them.

These features will require a lot of processing inside your device to work properly – putting a lot of strain on your computer’s chips.

Therefore, not all Apple devices will receive the Apple Intelligence update.

“The flagship models require an enormous amount of computing,” said Apple’s John Giannandrea in a discussion attended by The Sun at WWDC 2024.

“It is the amount of computation required that provides this limitation.”

Here are the devices that will support Apple Intelligence:

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPad (with M1 chip or later)
  • Mac (with M1 chip or later)
