FANS of Shawshank Redemption will soon be able to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary in person.

Residents of Mansfield, Ohio will see a grand celebration with a three-day schedule of events for hardcore fans.

The city and surrounding area were where much of the film was filmed.

According to Destination Mansfieldevents begin this weekend to honor the film’s legacy.

The cult favorite film is IMDb’s number one film of all time.

Fans can kick off their festivities on August 8th with a drive-in screening of the film on the Renaissance Theater backlot.

Additional screenings with reserved indoor seating will also take place on August 9th and 10th.

Shawshank Redemption enthusiasts can also sign up for tours of more than a dozen filming locations in and around Mansfield.

Visitors will follow the “Shawshank Trail,” a collection of sites relevant to the film.

Sites included on the tour include the Ohio State Reformatory, Shawshank Museum, Renaissance Theater, Shawshank Woodshop, Pugh Cabin and more.

Fans will also have the rare opportunity to meet Hollywood director Frank Darabont, who wrote the script for the film based on Rita Hayworth and Stephen King’s Shawshank Redemption.

Other cast members such as Bob Gunton (Warden Norton), William Sadler (Keywood) and Gil Bellows (Tommy Williams) will be in Mansfield throughout the weekend.

Can’t-miss events include a casting panel hosted by Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz.

The panel is also expected to feature discussions, including one with background actors, to give fans a true behind-the-scenes look at the film.

Bus tours begin at noon on August 8th, starting at the Ohio State Reformatory, and end at 4pm.

The film screening on Thursday will begin at 8:45 pm, in the green area of ​​Imagination Plaza, next to the Renaissance Theatre.

The Behind the Scenes and Beyond Panel will take place at Theater 166 on Friday, August 9, from 10am

The question and answer panel with the film’s background actors will take place at the same cinema on August 10th, starting at 10am.

An “intimate” evening with the stars of the film will also take place on the same night, at 4:30 pm, inside the Ohio State Reformatory.

Although tickets for the event are sold out, fans can purchase tickets for the live broadcast at the Renaissance Theater here.

The weekend’s anniversary events will conclude with the final Shawshank bus tour at the Ohio State Reformatory at noon on August 12.
