O’Hare International Airport is getting shine according to an announcement from Mayor Johnson and the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA).

Part of the upgrades came from a $40 million grant from Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.

According to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the funds are some of the largest of their kind in U.S. history.

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, as enacted in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, authorizes up to $108 billion for public transportation,” said the FTA website read.

“[This is] the largest federal investment in public transportation in the country’s history.”

WHAT TO EXPECT

Travelers can expect some major changes at O’Hare International Airport’s Terminal 3.

According to City of Chicagopart of these reforms will be at the TSA.

The plan is to redesign two TSA checkpoints into one to make room for “modern, more efficient equipment.”

There will also be an expansion of the passenger corridor between Concourse K and Concourse L, making the area more accessible.

The “waiting space” at gates K1 and L2A will also have more space for passengers.

The funds will also be allocated to a complete renovation of the baggage claim area.

Foodies and those looking for some rest and relaxation can also rejoice.

The plan is to develop 10,000 square feet of “new concessions and recreational spaces.”

The bathrooms will also be renovated and new family bathrooms will be installed.

Finally, additional construction will be carried out to make the airport more energy efficient.

MORE IMPROVEMENTS

O’Hare International Airport’s new look is part of a larger set of renovations in the area.

According to Travel weeklythe airport has already expanded Terminal 5.

As Chicago continues its airport renovation, work is expected to continue until 2027.

CDA Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee weighed in on the upcoming changes.

“O’Hare’s bustling Terminal 3 is a critical piece of Chicago’s infrastructure that will continue to play a key role in our national aviation system for decades to come,” he said in the press release.

“I thank the entire Illinois Congressional delegation and our partners at the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration for supporting our work to renovate this terminal.

“We look forward to working with our partners in the construction sector to ensure this project provides contracting opportunities to help diverse small businesses build capacity.

“[All] while fulfilling Mayor Johnson’s vision of using government to connect this city’s young people with opportunities to realize their potential.”
