TRAVELERS should be aware that an airline may not be flying.

Southwest Airlines is ceasing operations due to safety concerns regarding Boeing planes.

The company has been under a microscope since an Alaska Airlines flight panel malfunctioned this year.

With a closer look at Boeing, the supply is increasingly hard to find.

Due to the shortage, some airlines have had no choice but to scale back.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU

Southwest Airlines, known for its offers and deep discounts, is closing its doors at four North American airports.

Southwest Airlines Chairman and CEO Bob Jordan named the affected flights in a Press release.

“To improve our financial performance, we have intensified our network optimization efforts to address underperforming markets,” he said.

“Consequently, we have made the difficult decision to cease operations at Bellingham International Airport, Cozumel International Airport, Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Syracuse Hancock International Airport.

“I want to sincerely thank our employees, airports and communities for all of their incredible support over the years.”

They are also reducing their staff, as 2,000 jobs will be eliminated by the end of the year.

I saw Boeing workers stepping on plane parts to fit them together – I don’t want to see another 777 crash because I didn’t say anything, says whistleblower

“”Additionally, we are evaluating options to improve the customer experience as we study product preferences and expectations, including onboard seats and our cabin,” Jordan added.

“And we are implementing cost control initiatives, including limiting hiring and offering voluntary time off programs.

“We now expect to end 2024 with approximately 2,000 fewer employees compared to the end of 2023.”

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

Boeing has seen cuts in deliveries since recent safety issues.

A broken window in the middle of an Alaska Airlines flight in January drew further inspection.

Airlines like Southwest are experiencing a slowdown in new plane deliveries.

Security concerns are also affecting projected revenues, thereby decreasing available flights.

“Significant challenges presented by delays in the delivery of Boeing aircraft” are expected to “negatively impact” Southwest’s previous guidance for 2024.

Southwest Airlines isn’t the only travel carrier affected by aircraft delays.

American Airlines also saw a decrease in Boeing deliveries, according to a report from Fortune.
