A CRUZEIRO ship worker has revealed the same mistakes that new passengers make always leave the crew furious.

Birmingham native Lucy Southerton, 28, frequently offers tips on how guests and other crew members can make the most of their time on board.

In a recent video, she discussed some of the most common mistakes new “cruisers” make and how to avoid them on her YouTube channel, Cruising as Crew, where she has more than 67,000 subscribers.

Lucy started off by saying that the first mistake she sees new cruisers make is that they don’t budget properly because they “treat a cruise like an all-inclusive holiday”.

She said: “If some people have only done an all-inclusive holiday, they make the mistake of thinking that a cruise holiday is very similar to that.

“So a lot of people don’t budget for incidentals while they’re onboard because they have the misconception that most things will be free.

While some of this is true – most of your meals are included in the buffet and dining area – Lucy highlighted that there will be activities and restaurants at additional costs.

The nine-year cruise veteran also warned viewers about the cost of tipping, which some first-time travelers may not be aware of, Online Mail reports.

It’s crucial to budget for this so you don’t run out of money when your vacation is almost over, she said.

Lucy said: “On a lot of cruises you get hit with the tip bill at the end, which I’ve also seen a lot of people have no budget for.”

The cruise ship worker also said that first-time passengers tend to ignore safety instructions.

She admitted: “I think we can all have the attitude that this will never happen to me, I will never be on a cruise ship that goes into emergency.

“While I hope to God this is true for you, you never know.

“As crew members, what we don’t want in an emergency is everyone running around in a panic because they didn’t pay attention to the initial safety instructions and don’t know where their emergency station is.”

Lucy added: “If you get nothing else out of this, know where you should go in an emergency.”
