There is NOTHING worse than having an annoying passenger kick your seat as soon as you board the plane.

But it’s not always clear what to do when there are disruptive travelers on board.

Traveling with children is never easy for parents, and entertainment on board an aircraft is somewhat limited.

So what if they decide to have fun kicking the back of your seat?

Former flight attendant Bobby Laurie explained the best way to approach the situation and when the right time is to hit the call button for help.

He said Condé Nast Traveler : “Distraction appears to be a reliable method for calming a turbulent child. However, even a passenger’s valiant efforts to calm a child may be insufficient.”

“Those non-audible annoyances like kicking the seat in front of them, excessively pressing the call button, climbing in and out of seats, and disobeying the seatbelt sign?

“Most of these actions are safety related and warrant involvement of a flight attendant should the situation get out of control.”

However, he added that it is also not easy for flight attendants to resolve the issue, admitting that some parents are better than others.

If you’re the parent in question whose kids don’t do very well on flights, there are several tricks that can help keep them calm.

As a rule, it’s a good idea to have an excess amount of toys and snacks for the trip.

Emirates cabin crew, Emily Jones, advises: “Bring a mix of old and new toys with you and make a game of giving the toys away, wrapping them up and asking your children to guess what’s inside.

Travel tips in the heights: how to fly comfortably

“For babies and toddlers, think about stacking cups and boxes, anything where you can ‘hide’ other small toys inside.”

Also remember to bring pajamas, as well as a spare, so your kids are comfortable and have something to wear in case of accidents or spills.

Norwegian Air cabin crew also shared some good tips with Sun Online Travel.

Liliana Chantre, senior cabin crew, said: “Bring noise-canceling headphones for newborn babies and young children – this helps them feel calm and relaxed, as well as helping with pressure change.”

And Lee Allen, Cabin Crew, said: “I always carry lavender balm. Just tap your child’s temple to keep them calm. On a night flight, the calming scent helps induce sleep.”

And don’t be afraid to ask for help. As Emily Jones, Emirates cabin crew, said: “We love meeting your little ones and are happy to have visitors in the galley, which also keeps us entertained on long flights!

“I recently entertained a five-month-old baby for half an hour while the mother went to the bathroom and organized her belongings. She told me it was the best 30 minutes of her 22 hour journey!

“Flying with kids can be quite stressful, so let the cabin crew help you take a break.”

Everything you need to know before boarding a plane

Meanwhile, this mom keeps her kids entertained during flights with a very cheap and simple DIY item.

And another dad revealed the best time to board a plane with your kids.

If there is a safety concern, it is appropriate to ask cabin crew for intervention.
