ELEVEN quirky new Airbnb experiences have been revealed, including a soaring Up house and a 2D-animated X-Men mansion.

Airbnb made the exclusive announcement during its Summer 2024 launch presentation, which took place in Los Angeles on May 1.

Led by Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky, photos of the icons were presented one by one on a large screen as conference attendees’ jaws dropped.

As a special surprise at the end of the presentation, which also revealed the new travel app for group trips, one of the icons, the Up house, was moved from New Mexico to California so that event participants could experience it in person. .

O House aboveone of Disney and Pixar’s most iconic houses, was recreated so that guests staying at the house in Abiquiu, New Mexico, could spend a day in the shoes of protagonist Carl Fredricksen.

The yellow-painted house includes 8,000 balloons floating on top, and as an added bonus, once guests check in, a crane attached to the house will suspend the one-bedroom property to make it float in the sky, just like the film.

All of this can be experienced… for free. That’s right!

Just like the movie Up, another part of the Icons house is the headquarters of the Riley team, from Inside Out 2.

In anticipation of the June 14 release of Disney and Pixar’s new film, Inside Out 2, guests are invited to spend the night at animated character Riley’s headquarters.

While the listing won’t be available until June, Airbnb teased the experience by writing, “Your host, Joy, will welcome you into her vibrant world to witness emotions in action and help keep things in balance.”

Another Airbnb home that is part of Icons is X-Mansionwhich was actually a 10,000 square foot property in Westchester, New York that was transformed into a 2D animation.

Artists spent hours painting the interior of the now-Xavier Institute — down to little knick-knacks, including plants — to transform the property into Marvel Comics’ X-Men ’97 film.

With 100 pieces of exclusive X-Men items in the mansion, guests will be able to “discover” or even “master” their mutant abilities in various rooms, such as the Danger Room or War Room, for $97 per guest.

In Minneapolis, Minnesota, Airbnb users can stay at Prince’s Purple Rain Housewhich wasn’t available to the public…until now.

“For the first time, celebrate the life and music of our friend and legendary lead singer of The Revolution, Prince, by staying in the actual Purple Rain house from the film.

“Enjoy an intimate tour, enjoy some rare Prince music and get some sleep in The Kid’s room.

“Wear your best purple attire, and when you enter the story, feel free to unleash your royal rock star,” say Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman of Prince’s band The Revolution.

More details will be revealed once booking opens in August.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

The 11 Icons lineup isn’t just a one-night stay at a legendary house, it’s also the chance to hang out with a celebrity — for a fraction of what meet-and-greet tickets would normally cost.

Airbnb partnered with Doja Cat to literally “dress up or wear your pajamas” and have an intimate experience with the rapper.

“You will enjoy an unforgettable performance in the Grammy-winning artist’s living room, including your favorite songs and tracks from her latest album,” said the listingwhich comes out in October this year, he says.

Doja added: “Fresh back from festivals and my European tour, I’m bringing my very special show directly to you in an intimate living room setting.

“Music is my passion, I can’t wait to share this piece of my world with you in a way you’ll never forget. Have fun with me and my cats.”

Just like Doja Cat, Kevin Hart is also introducing an intimate experience where fans will be able to enter his members-only store. Coramino Live Lounge where the comedian and his A-list pals will treat 30 guests to a tequila tasting and live stand-up show.

But that is not all. Two other icons include a night gaming experience with TikTok sensation Khaby Lame (for free!) as well as a seven-day period tourist experience with the reggaeton star Feide (for US$19).

EXCUSE TO GO ABROAD

The Icons aren’t just based in the US – they’ve been hand-selected from around the world.

In Maranello, Italy, guests can stay at the iconic Ferrari Museum as part of Airbnb’s collaboration with the Italian supercar brand.

Guests can sleep in a bed made from the same leather as Ferrari car seats, drive a Ferrari 296 GTB, and even dine at Cavallino, founder Enzo Ferrari’s favorite restaurant… all for $0.

From May 21st guests can book to spend the night at the famous Paris museum Musée d’Orsayduring the 2024 Olympic Games.

Not only will guests have the best view of the games from the rooftop terrace, they will also have private access to the Impressionist Museum collection.

Lastly, Bollywood Star Janhvi Kapoor is opening part of its home in Chennai, India, where guests can enjoy authentic South Indian cuisine and be pampered like the actress.

HOW TO BOOK

“Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination – until now,” said Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky in a press release.

“As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world. With Icons, we create the most extraordinary experiences on Earth.”

Most icons are free, but some cost less than $100 per guest. Prices for upcoming listings have not yet been revealed.

Icons are presented in their own category on the home page.

Guests can request to reserve an icon of their choice (or more than one) through the app and even turn on notifications to be notified when a listing becomes available.

Each icon will be open for reservation requests for a limited time.

To request a reservation, choose your dates, add guests, and answer a question about why you want to go.

According to guidelinesAirbnb will randomly choose a set of potential guests after analyzing their responses.

Those who offer a “unique perspective, passion for travel and connection to the Icon” will be invited to book and receive a digital golden ticket. More than 4,000 tickets will be shipped in 2024.
