After extensive renovations, the property invites guests to experience the special island with its upgraded amenities and private homes.

MAINTAINING CHARACTER
Located in Key West, Florida, Southernmost beach resort got a $15 makeover, according to Daily Travel News.
The resort, situated on a former “pirate island”, includes Victorian townhouses and a private beach.
Twelve and a half million dollars of the budget was allocated to the restoration of its four “19th century style” houses, known as The Guesthouses.
Each house has its own name – La Mer, Dewey, Avalon and Duval Gardens.
This “adults-only sanctuary” maintains the original Victorian-style design.
The goal was to combine the “legacy” of this region of Florida with a “renewed” aesthetic.
Think shades of blue reminiscent of the Atlantic Ocean, along with “warm coral accents.”
You’ll also notice hardwood floors, brass accents, and textured rugs throughout.
Everything aims to evoke a “balance” between “old world charm” and “modern luxury”.
Adding to the charm is the fact that each guesthouse has its own innkeeper, giving a “bed and breakfast” feel within the larger resort complexes.
Art from local artists as well as nostalgic photographs can also be found in every room.
The common spaces of The Guesthouses also aim to promote a feeling of “community”.
Some of these spaces include the waterfront Dewey Deck, as well as The Parlor at Avalon, a completely new addition that also features a bar area.

Guests will wake up to not only a view, but also complimentary breakfast and even midday snacks.

After all, The Guesthouses once served as the island’s first hospitals.
At one point, they even became a boys’ school, as well as a “military stronghold,” during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
You’ll also walk in the footsteps of one of Key West’s most famous former residents, Ernest Hemingway.
Guests can still enjoy more modern amenities, including three swimming pools, shops, bars and their own cafe.
This is also not the resort’s first renovation.
Two years ago, they updated all 243 rooms as well as other areas of the property.
FUN IN THE SUN
The resort, which is also ideal for families, offers plenty to do, including trivia night, according to Travel and Leisure.
They also explained that popular destinations like the Key West Butterfly Museum and the Hemingway House are just steps away.
They were especially impressed by the “wraparound porch” and “wicker rocks” that can be found outside each private home.
The area is also home to the state’s only Presidential Museum and Judy Blume’s bookstore called Books and Books.
Laurayne Croke, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing, wants guests to experience the area like “a local”.
They explained how each of The Guesthouse’s 52 rooms have “spa-like” bathrooms.
Guests will enjoy free beach yoga and $15 bike rentals offered by the hotel.
The “seven kilometer long” resort also offers many ways to get around, including scooters and trams.
Prices range from US$199 in low season, while guesthouse rates start at US$439.
