NEED a last-minute flight change? Don’t be discouraged – budget airline travelers will no longer need to worry about fees.
Spirit Airlines has removed all flight cancellations and change fees.
Customers can now modify or cancel their flights at no additional cost, a move that larger competitors such as Delta, American and United have done during the pandemic with the exception of their cheapest tickets.
The move could save inconvenienced travelers hundreds of dollars.
Before the new policy, passengers had to pay up to $119 to change their tickets.
Unlucky Spirit travelers paid $69 for changes made 31 to 59 days in advance, $99 for changes made seven to 30 days before departure, and $119 for changes made within six days of flight.
The airline followed in the footsteps of Frontier, which announced its new free policy with its latest Economy, Premium and Executive rate packages along with its traditional Basic option.
“We changed and now we are free to change,” said Barry Biffle, CEO of Frontier Airlines.
“This improvement is a key part of our promise to make traveling with Frontier as flexible and worry-free as possible.
“We understand that plans can change and we want to ensure that when they do, our passengers can adjust their bookings without the stress of additional fees.”
With the exception of the Basic rate, all packages have eliminated change and cancellation fees, as well as some built-in money-saving perks.
Packages include carry-on luggage and seat assignments and extend the life of customers’ flight credits from three months to one year.
While all travelers on the three new options are guaranteed carry-on bags, business class passengers have two checked bags included in the fare, plus extra legroom with the carrier’s UpFront Plus plan.
Each customer will receive an aisle with extra legroom or a window seat next to an open center seat.
Premium and business class customers can also board the plane first.
The airline has also revamped the customer experience with improved phone agent support.
We have changed and now it is free to change.

A “For Less” Price Guarantee rewards customers who find a lower fare elsewhere with 2,500 Frontier Miles.
“Today marks the beginning of a new era for Frontier – one with transparency in our pricing, no change fees and the lowest total price,” said Biffle.
“This is ‘The New Frontier’ and we are committed to offering more than the lowest fares.
“We offer the best price for all the options you want and the customer support you need when you need it.
“No gimmicks, just really low prices and good customer service.”
Prices for Frontier’s latest packages start at $30 per person, per direction.
