It was recently reported that New York’s fourth-largest city has one of the best livability in the country.

Of the 10 cities, Rochester ranked ninth on the US News and World Report list thanks to the city’s quality of life, value, desirability and job market indices, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported.

Rochester is known for its history, great university, and most of all, its winter storms.

The city in upstate New York currently has a population of just over 1 million.

The median is $195,508, nearly half the median home price in the U.S. as a whole.

The average age is 40 years old and the unemployment rate is 8.8%.

In an effort to attract more people to the area, the city started the Largest remote ROC program.

The Greater ROC Remote program offers home care programs and career services.

Those looking to move can receive up to $10,000 in grants and incentives, plus another $9,000 in homebuying subsidies.

Below Rochester is Trenton, New Jersey, at number 10.

Topping the top of the list is Ann Arbor, Michigan, followed by Boulder, Colorado, and Madison, Wisconsin.

Michigan is also running a program similar to Rochester’s, offering recent graduates and future college students incentives to stay in the state.

The Midwestern state is offering 350 scholarships and internships aimed at attracting talent to the state’s electric vehicle, mobility and semiconductor industries, CNN reported.

The program awards scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to residents who complete an internship and/or accept a full-time position in select STEM sectors.

Those who read the fine print will note that the job or internship must be through a participating company and recipients must remain in Michigan for at least one year.

Once selected, qualified candidates will join a pool that will give them access to exclusive industry events.

The program has currently awarded 62 scholarships and has around 521 cohort members.

Although the state has only allocated 350 scholarships to participants, the state has plans to expand the program.

“We’re just looking for ways to strategically expand the program, whether that’s opening up more opportunities through our employers and these scholarships for out-of-state students or out-of-state schools or… tying that directly to homeownership and other [incentives],” Kerry Ebersole Singh, director of talent solutions and chief engagement officer at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, told CNN.

“So I definitely anticipate that we will look at increasing that in strategic areas rather than reducing it at this point.”
