She previously wrote in Mothers Network: “I haven’t found vacations to be relaxing at all since I had children.”

She said her husband wanted to go on holiday with his children and parents for an independent break.

The mother continued: “His parents never did all-inclusives, but I think self-catering holidays the same as being at home, but in a different place, without home comforts.

“I’m also one of those types who burns instantly in the sun.”

She asked, “Does AIBU think that for me it would just be a waste of money?”

Surprisingly, many people agreed with her in the comments.

One person wrote: “I completely agree that an independent parenting vacation is not a vacation.

“I came back exhausted during the summer. All the planning, preparation, cooking etc. eliminated me.”

Another said: “No to self-service! You would need more vacation to get over it.”

A third agreed: “I would certainly give up on any idea that holidays are relaxing with young children; in fact, I’m not sure vacation is.”

Many people suggested opting for an all-inclusive break in destinations like the Canary Islands, as it is a short flight but still hot.

Not everyone agreed – one mother said: “I have to disagree.

“If we are going to travel for a shorter holiday, we can choose hotels, but if we are going to have a longer holiday, say a week or more, I much prefer self-catering.

“It’s more relaxed because you can please yourself when you get up, with what you do, when you eat. Plus, you generally have more privacy and space.”

Another mom also explained why she thinks you should never go on vacation for two weeks, which people also agreed with.

She wrote: “Every time we go on a sun/beach/villa/complex European holiday we book for 14 days and every time I get to day 10 and I’m fed up and want to be home.”

Many agreed – one person said: “10 days to go but two weeks off work so you don’t have that horrible shock back to work as soon as you get home! Lovely!”

Some mothers recently explained why it’s better to go on vacation with just one child, leaving the others at home.

While many mothers agree, others say it’s not fair to the children.
