WHERE TO GO

The usual candidates, Los Angeles and New York, topped the list.

The three Midwest cities for a memorable Fourth of July include Minneapolis, Minnesota, St. Paul, Minnesota, and St. Louis.

Wallethub analyst Cassandra Happe gave her two cents on July 4th destinations.

“The Fourth of July is one of America’s most beloved holidays,” she said.

“[It allows] many of us not only to celebrate our independence, but also to take a day off from work and get together with family and friends.

“The best vacation cities help you make the most of your day, with affordable food options, great weather, fun recreation options, and long, spectacular fireworks shows.”

She investigated why Los Angeles, California ranked first for July 4th destinations.

“Los Angeles is the best city for Fourth of July celebrations, in part because it’s easy to prepare for a Fourth of July party with the second-highest number of party supply stores per capita,” she said.

“In addition, the city offers great hiking possibilities, as well as a multitude of other recreational activities to enjoy on your day off.”

She added that inflation could be to blame when it comes to festivities.

According to research from Wallethub, more than half of Americans are saving money this year.

“60% of Americans plan to spend less money on the Fourth of July this year compared to last year, according to the latest WalletHub survey,” she said.

“[The survey] shows that inflated prices for food, travel and other holiday staples are making people rethink their plans.

“In fact, three in five people say inflation is affecting their Fourth of July plans, which aligns with the percentage of people who plan to cut spending.”

Cities that made the top 20 include Phoenix, Arizona and Denver, Colorado.

With Phoenix projected to surpass 100 degrees on the Fourth of July and Denver around 90 degrees, it’s clearly a hot topic.
